homework
KEEP CAL M AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK:)
Homework is work study at home that helps your child be better prepared for class. It is also the chance for them to get a lot of one on one attention. This can help with misunderstandings or practice of skills we are working on daily. The research on daily reading is out there, just take a look at THIS link. However, this should NEVER take more than 45 minutes. Typically your child will: read for 15 minutes, write about the book for 5 minutes, do a math column for 10 minutes with your help, and practice their spelling words for 10 minutes independently. You should do a spelling word check in throughout the week and also look over their reading log to make sure it is grammatically correct and shows they read.

Reading HomeworkReading homework should be done for 15 minutes nightly. This should sometimes be independent and other times be aloud to an adult. Afterwards, have comprehension discussions about characters, setting, conflicts, solutions, themes, etc. Please Fill the reading log out nightly and there should be three sentences for each book. Please check your child's work to make sure it is free of errors and gives a summary of the book, characters, or other story elements. Return each Friday. Below you will find a blank reading log as well as extras in the daily home binder.

Spelling HomeworkSpelling homework will be quick and easy if you take Monday night to read them, talk about their meaning, and notice anything about the word (vowel pairs, blends, diagraphs, prefixes & suffixes, etc. Take a practice test on Thursday so you know you're prepared for the test! Please use this link to spellingcity.com to see your child's group and words. Your 3rd grader has a login (their name and the room number 203), and a password that is an animal. This leads them to their spelling lists. You can use this as practice with online games. The last two words on the list will always be challenge words/homophones. Use the spelling choice grid below if you lose the one in the take home binder. It is important to know that each kid is different and may need more or less practice with these words.
